Research interest

My research interests are orientated to the understanding of the effects of our changing world on aquatic ecosystems. I started my career looking at the biodiversity of macroalgae in subtropical streams. Then I followed an interest in understanding the ecological factors determining some patterns for the occurrence of microalgae in shallow lakes under eutrophication pressure. This contact with the experimental approach opens to me the possibilities of understanding the processes and mechanisms underlying the patterns that we see in nature. Currently, I’m working on understanding the evolutionary aspects of natural microalgae populations affected by eutrophication and re-oligotrophication, and its effects on traits and their biotic interactions. To do so, I’m using resurrection ecology and experimental evolutionary approaches.
